  • Cooking Chemicals: Also referred to as pulping chemicals, these include sodium hydroxide, sodium sulfide, and sulfurous acid. These are vital in breaking down lignin and freeing cellulose fibers. The Kraft process continues to dominate due to its efficiency and scalability.

  • Enzymes & Biochemicals: Enzyme-based solutions like xylanase and laccase are gaining traction for their environmentally safe properties. These are used in pre-bleaching and pitch control stages, reducing chemical loads and energy use.

  • Mechanical & Thermo-mechanical Pulping: Though less chemical-intensive, these processes require resins, enzymes, and chelants for fiber modification and quality improvement. These are widely used for newspaper and magazine papers, and increasingly for hybrid packaging materials.
